Know your Self

You have a certain type of personality, specific needs, specific set of emotions, some specific fears. Some things you like and some things you don’t like. We are almost always aware what we like and do not like, what is good and what is bad for us when it concerns food. However, we almost never know, what emotions, what actions, what situations are good, beneficial for our psychological health, and what are harmful. Since we do not know ourselves, we create our life, form our environment based not on our actual, clear needs, but mostly based on mixture of emotions that we are unaware of. And then we are not happy about the consequences, we regret, get depressed, get anxious, which in turn adds to our ocean of unconsciousness emotions and thoughts.

Let me illustrate this in a simple manner. Let’s imagine you are a plant, a beautiful orchid. When you were small, you were not able to know this by yourself. Your parents (that have been brought up as potatoes, but actually are completely different plants) started to form you based on their perception of reality, most probably as a potato too. You got the environment that is probably very good to grow a super good potato, however, your real needs were orchid-needs. You probably need more sun than a potato, different type of nutrition, and different type of treatment. Later, as you grew up a little, you were placed in a school, which tried to make a cactus out of you. You were told certain “truths” and got some picture of a cactus society.

See, what will happen to an orchid, if you put it into unsuitable environment. Put in soil, best suited for potatoes, give a little water and place in a sunny hot place where a cactus would thrive. You will see, that even if an orchid would survive such conditions, it would not be a healthy plant, and you should definitely not expect it to blossom.

And after you left the school, with a cactus mindset and physical environment best fit for potatoes, you enter the world full of such confused personalities. You continue in this confusing role, half potato, half cactus, (and a little bit of orchid somewhere deep inside) try to fit in to the society and try to achieve some goals and fulfill expectations based on your confused and unconscious perception of the world. However, you do not feel in harmony with you. You feel, that you are living “wrong” life, that your achievements do not give you harmony and inner peace. Your anxiety just grows, depression evolves, life is getting boring and dull, maybe meaningless. And this will most probably continue, as long as you will live not your life. See, what will happen to an orchid, if you put it into unsuitable environment. Put in soil, best suited for potatoes, give a little water and place in a sunny hot place where a cactus would thrive. You will see, that even if an orchid would survive such conditions, it would not be a healthy plant, and you should definitely not to expect it to blossom.

Only when you will create an environment that would fit your real needs, only when your actions will be aligned with your real needs, only then you will be able to achieve piece and harmony with your mind, and body. But the biggest challenge here is to find out, who you really are, what your real needs are. Your real Self is buried deep down under huge amount of your experiences, emotions, expectations from the parents, fears, pressure from the society, wrong perception of your Self and of the world around you. In order to find your real Self, you have to get ready for a challenging, and probably long travel, inside of you. There you will see many different things, something very scary, something very shameful and embarrassing. You will meet for sure a lot of nice surprises, and sometimes you will feel tired, confused or frustrating. But I will assure you, it will be a life changing experience! If you have enough courage, persistence and will, you will go all the way and at the end, you will look back with contentment and gratitude and a quiet smile on your lips.
